The Rutherglen Wine Show, which occurred earlier this month, has had Rutherglen Estates staff grinning from ear to ear. We are overjoyed to announce that some of our wines are being recognised as the best in the Rutherglen region! Our 2016 Shelley’s Block performed particularly well, being awarded a trophy and gold medal for the ‘best dry white table wine from Rutherglen fruit’.
Rutherglen Estates Chief Winemaker, Marc Scalzo said:
“We are particularly pleased to see our Shelley’s Block perform so well, but not at all surprised. We have worked meticulously to constantly improve our Renaissance VRM, and have recently converted the Shelley’s Block into its ‘little brother’ in the sense that the pedigree of the fruit is from the same, premium block. It is fantastic value at $19 and we are really pleased this has been acknowledged.”
Amongst the medals awarded to Rutherglen Estates, our 2014 Limited Release Durif was one that performed admirably. The Durif, made from wine deliberately picked for its intensity and typical varietal flavours of prunes, liquorice and chocolate, was awarded a phenomenal three trophies (best dry red from Rutherglen fruit ’14-’16, best dry red from NE Victoria ’14-’16 and best barrel matured wine for NE Vic), as well as a gold medal. This was an especially memorable win for Rutherglen Estates, as this wine was specifically made for our fabulous Cellar Club members, who would have had the opportunity to try it in their most recent wine delivery.
These wins are a credit to our wonderful staff, from vineyard to cellar door, this acknowledges the dedication of such a passionate, hard-working team.
