2007 Zinfandel
Zinfandel is a very addictive red wine! Ripe berry and brambly fruit, licorice, coffee and chocolate aromas carry through to a rich and flavoursome and a bright acid finish. Aged in American oak for 12 months, this wine is a delicious drink and our sales & marketing manager's favourite!

RUTHERGLEN ESTATES RED 2008
'Good crimson-purple; this 85/15 blend of Shiraz/Durif has attractive red and black fruit flavours, quite possibly unoaked, but offering a lot of wine for the price. Rating 88'
Burgoyne's Block (2008 Mourvedre Shiraz Grenache)
Ralph Kyte-Powell, The Age Epicure, 13 July 2010
RUTHERGLEN ESTATES BURGOYNE'S BLOCK 2008
'Named for the Burgoyne family, whose 1890s vineyard site provided the Mourvedre, Shiraz and Grenache grapes for this blend, it's a rustic red smelling of blackberries, meaty richness, cumin and spice. It tastes spicy too, but with smooth texture, good body and balanced, briary tannins. Food ideas: Lebanese lamb pastries, cheese and spinach pide'
Zoe Rudder, Ovens & Murray Advertiser, 2 June 2010
RUTHERGLEN ESTATES BURGOYNE'S BLOCK
'Rutherglen's Winery Walkabout is coming up and I'm excited. Drifiting betwen wineries, drinking delicious wine, eating delicious food and taking in delicious views is a pretty scrummy way to spend a weekend. Another boon to the Walkabout is that some of the wineries use the weekend as an oopportunity to launch some of their latest releases. I have Christopher Columbus taste buds and if there is a new vino to try then try they must. My legion of eager Columbuses got a special treat recently when I had the pleasure of trying Rutherglen Estates 2008 Burgoyne's Block ahead of its official release at the Walkabout. This delightful blend of Mourvedre, Shiraz and Grenache is a particularly drinkable wine, offering up a host of moreish flavours. There are a lot of ripe berry fruits here, woven in perfectly with a pepper and leathery richness. The Grenache delivers softer notes of strawberry and vanilla. Some time spent maturing with a small amount of spicy French oak adds a nice degree of complexity and roundness to the finish. This is definetly not a wine for light dishes and needs to be teamed with something rich, like a steak or a casserole. If red meats don't float your boat, try it with a homemakde chicken cacciatore.'

RUTHERGLEN ESTATES BURGOYNE'S BLOCK MOURVEDRE SHIRAZ GRENACHE 2008
'This is a really good undemanding red. The nose is ripe and spicy, with peppery, red-berry fruit. The palate is soft and elegant, with sweet-fruit abounding, not as dry as the French style but with soft tannins and good length. With food: tuscan sausages, pizza'
James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2010
'Has the typical bright colour and lifted fruit flavours achieved by co-fermentation with a small percentage of Viognier; cherry and plum flavours, the tannins soft. Rating 89'
Tony Keys, The Key Review of Wines, Issue 20, July 2009
'The power of suggestion: I didn't pin it on tasting, but in the reading notes it mentions an "iodine aroma" and this is spot-on. Rich in style, but not over the top, robust journey, plenty of flavour and a damn fine drink. 91 points and good value'
Max Crus, Morning Bulletin and Northern Star, 25 April 2009
'Great label for a party on a dark night, an indeed great wine for a party on a dark night. Great night for a dark party. Wine? 8.5 out of 10'
James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2010
'A nicely balanced combination of bright red fruits and a touch of blackberry; there is a little varietal sweetness to the fruit, and an elegant aspect that delivers a complex example while maintaining balance. Rating 90'
Gourmet Traveller Wine, April/May 2009
91 points, 4 stars ' This is a big, rustic red with a sweetly ripe blueberry, blackberry, chocolatey and almost jammy aroma. It's fairly high in alcohol, without a lot of elegance, but loads of flavour and robust, grippy tannins. A crowd-pleaser.'
Tim White, Australian Financial Review, 23-25 January 2009
'Classic zin smells in this: moss, brambly briar, red currant and floral peachy things. Smells rich yet sapid. Lots in the mouth to get on with. Pretty long, too, and just a tweak of cuddly alcohol warmth. 94/100'
Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front, 25 October 2008
'This is a blend of 90 percent zinfandel with 10 percent durif. Bright, pure, gutsy and smooth – with a deliciously spicy edge. Easy slings of musk and plum-shot ironstone. Quite yum. Great drinking – if you like your reds big and ripe. 90 points'
Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front, 10 February 2010
'Hard wine to make my mind up on, this one. It's a burly, brutish wine. It has lots of heavy flavour and the tannin to match. It tastes of earth and iodine, coffee grounds and tar. You wouldn't call it generous despite the power of flavour; there's nothing bright or soft here, that's for sure. It's not for consuming as a youngster; it needs at least a few years. 91+ points'
