Chief winemaker, Marc Scalzo, had the following to say in regards to how the busy season of vintage is going …
“All our whites are showing good varietal flavours. Fiano is without a doubt the standout at this stage, showing fantastic natural acidity and freshness. We are lucky to have have two international winemakers helping our busy team this vintage. We have gained Michael Pasquarelli from Sonoma Valley (USA) & Clement Lavallee (Chablis, France), both bringing a lot of enthusiasm and energy to the team.
The reds look to have good colour and tannin structure, but we are still patiently awaiting the arrival of those riper flavours, before choosing to pick. With the cooler nights we are hoping that the grapes ripen at a steady pace, and not too quickly, therefore spacing out picking dates.”
Although our vintage team are extremely busy working around the clock to bring you another year of our award-winning wines, they are a happy bunch due to this season, thus far, looking like a normal and therefore, a desirable growing season. Varietal flavours have been coming in at optimal times, and our team finished picking the whites on Feb 22nd. They will move onto the reds next week and, like it always does, vintage will be over and out for another year before we know it!
